In August 2018, I was the South African national winner of the Number 1 Mageu #ArtAndSoul packaging design competition.

THE COMPETITION
In August 2018, I was the South African national winner of the Number 1 Mageu #ArtAndSoul packaging design competition. I also won the Durban University of Technology design award and a 1 month internship to The Hardy Boys – a Durban based full-service creative and advertising agency. I won a cash prize of R10 000, an iPad and an iPencil for illustrating.
As part of a university project, we were required to enter the Number 1 Mageu #ArtAndSoul packaging design competition. The brief was to design a new banana packaging carton for the local South African brand. I was inspired by my peers at university to create quirky characters on the banana carton. Being on an arts campus, we had an array of interesting individuals who expressed themselves through their physical appearances. I wanted to show the beautiful jazz and soul of youth culture in South Africa. My design is a celebration of people.
